An evening of photographs and history

Broken Hill Historical Society warmly invites you to spend a special evening of Photographs and History with Dr Jeanette Thompson.

Jeanette has been exploring the life of George Frederick Jenkinson, the ‘invisible’ early immigrant photographer.

George Jenkinson, pioneer photographer, spent his working life behind the lens of a camera, remaining invisible while he captured big, important events in the birth of Broken Hill.

She will look at both Jenkins’ photography and life at the next meeting of the Broken Hill  Historical Society on Monday 11th September at the Synagogue Museum, 165 Wolfram Street. Meeting starts at 7pm.

Jenkinson’s work is represented in the collections of the Outback Archives, National Library of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and South Australian State Library.

Dr Jeanette Thompson is an author and historical researcher who was born and raised in Broken Hill. She emigrated to Canada in 1983 and returned to Australia in 1997.

The experience gave her some insight into the lives of people who leave their homeland to live in a new world.
